January Favourites

Last time I checked it was Christmas and now January seems to have gone past in the blink of an eye, blimey!

First up are the Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stains, of which I'm sure you are all sick of reading about. I was very late to these as when they came out I was on a strict cruelty free policy so I refused to buy them. (I'll talk more about why I purchased them in an upcoming post about my experience as being cruelty free). In regards to the product itself I can understand why everybody loves these so much, they are delightful. I picked them up for £5 each whilst on offer a few weeks ago, bargain! These are great for people who are lipstick shy as they can be quite subtle but also very buildable.

Next up is a nail polish from Topshop in the shade 'Threadbare'. I was looking for something similar to Revlon's Bare Bones and I think I may have found it in this shade. As you all know, Topshop nail polishes are pretty darn fantastic, this was opaque for me in just one coat and it lasted reasonably well. For just £5 they are wonderful products, I can see my collection growing this year. The makeup range from Topshop is all cruelty free which is superb as so many of you love their products!

The Rimmel ScandalEyes Waterproof Pencil in 'nude' was something that I had seen blogged about and after seeing the results of it I knew I had to try it. Again, Rimmel are not cruelty free, they're also not a brand I've purchased much from in the past; for me I've always been a Revlon girl. Anyhow, this eyeliner really has impressed me and it's made my eyes look far more awake than they feel! At a price of just £3.99 I think it is brilliant. I'm still not blown away by Rimmel though, I don't know where this opinion comes from.

Lastly is the Rêve de Miel Ultra-Nourishing Lip Balm by Nuxe. This has been raved about quite a lot and what with me on a never ending search for a decent lip product I just had to bite the bullet and try it. At £9.50 it really isn't the cheapest lip balm on the market, but after using this for just over a month now I have to say it is starting to work for me; I rather love it! It has a thick consistency to it which I think is what my lips needed before I started to use it as they were craving intense moisture. From what I can find out I think Nuxe are a cruelty free brand, yay!

Wishful Wednesday #7

A scheduled post for today folks, I'm most likely at the time of this going live stressing about my dissertation that I'm all of a sudden having to crack on with; I used to be so organised.

Here is what I have been eyeing up this last week!
Wishful Wednesday #7

I really want to try a lipstick from Topshop, I have read so many great things about these I think that I just need to go out and get one. Out of the shades available it is Whimsical that appeals to me the most. Along with the great reviews I've read Topshop makeup is cruelty free so kudos to Topshop!

Next up is Stella by Stella McCartney. She has been all over the blogosphere this last week; I'm not jumping on the hype though honest! I have been torn between Stella, Lily also by Stella as well as Juicy Couture and Marc Jacobs Daisy. I think Stella is winning at the moment but it could yet change, I can be so indecisive with perfume as they are not cheap.

I'm nearly at the ends of my Sally Hansen Cuticle Massage Cream of which I want to replace with a friendly animal version, plus, I've heard good things about this. Stand up, Burt's Bees Lemon Butter Cuticle Creme!

Lastly is this gorgeous Map Print Scarf from Topshop. I'm a bit of a scarf fanatic; I just love how feminine they are along with the gorgeous prints and designs you can get on them now. Plus I'm a Geography student; could this not be any more perfect?!

I have updated this post after having a smell of Elie Saab, oh my I really like this. I'm now very torn between Stella and Elie, uh oh!

Miss Selfridge || Spike Rhinestone Collar

Another jewellery post for you all today, with my chosen piece being that of a Spike Rhinestone Collar I picked up from Miss Selfridge last week.

Miss Selfridge || Spike Rhinestone Collar

Please note this necklace was a pain in the bum to photograph, the photos are not how I would have liked but this was the best I could achieve. Any tips for photographing things like this are most welcome!

This necklace caught my eye immediately in Miss Selfridge, to be truthful I first saw a gold version of the necklace which I did like but 'yellow gold' looking things have never really been my cup of tea so after feeling a bit sad that I couldn't see a silver version I was delighted to find it sitting on the bottom row of the stand. The bottom row folks! I personally think it deserves a much higher spot as in my opinion it is gorgeous!
Miss Selfridge || Spike Rhinestone Collar

I'm rather into spikes at the moment and what with this having lots of crystal rhinestones on it I find that it is simply a match made in heaven.

Miss Selfridge || Spike Rhinestone Collar

Please do excuse the shabby neckline on this top, Primark stuff never seems to last, but what can I expect for a £2.5-0 t-shirt!
This necklace cost me £10 and it is still available to buy at the time of me writing this post.

Valentine's Day Ideas || Zatchels

I've being wanting to do a few Valentine's Day inspired posts, with my first being a gift idea of which I only discovered last night. Zatchels are a UK based company which make in my opinion pretty fantastic satchels and bags. They have a number of collections which I've spent time looking through, however, the one that stood out for me most was of course the Love Hearts Collection which has been designed for this upcoming Valentine's Day. Have a peek below to see what is on offer.

Valentine's Day Ideas || Zatchels

I don't know about all of you but I'm completely smitten with these satchels! My favourite of the bunch is the large white and pink one at the top, it is beautiful. There is also the option of barrel bags and saddle bags in each design. I think that these would make such a nice gift to a loved one, as well as a rather nice treat for you. For me they’re not just suitable for Valentine’s Day, I know if I had one I would use it throughout the year, particularly in the summer on nice sunny days.

These bags are all handmade which I think adds a wonderful touch as I love a bit of handmade goodness and these surely are good. What intrigued me most about these is that you can customise your bag by choosing whether to have handles on or a slider for the strap, along with this you also can have a personal message put onto the bag; how cute!

These vary in prices depending on the size of the bag you order; the most expensive I got the large satchel bag to be was £140. This was adding every option to the bag and including a 130 character inscription; the cheapest option I could see was the barrel bag at £45. To be honest, even though they at first come across rather expensive I think their uniqueness, quality and the fact that they are handmade and can be personal to you makes them worth every penny.

I am going back to browse the site...!

Soap and Glory Smoulder Kohl Waterproof Eyeliners

Soap and Glory Smoulder Kohl Waterproof EyelinersSoap and Glory Smoulder Kohl Waterproof Eyeliners
Soap and Glory Smoulder Kohl Waterproof EyelinersDuring the January Sales I managed to pick up from Boots a Soap and Glory gift set for half price which had three eye shadows and five eye liners in tow, this set was called Sexy Crazy Khol.

For just £9 I got a great deal as each of these eyeliners cost £5 individually, let alone taking into account I got some eye shadows to boot. The colours from the top are 'Aquabat' which is a nice metallic green shade; I actually think it is more of a teal colour. Then we have 'Grapevine' which I think is quite a deep purple, once applied it isn't as bright at the end of the eyeliner suggests. The blue shade is called 'Blue My Mind' which again is darker once applied than it looks on the packaging. Lastly the two shades most practical for every day are 'Cocoa Bean' and 'Superblack'. After doing a quick search I have to say I could only find Superblack and Cocoa Bean being sold, maybe the other three colours were special for Christmas, who knows.

Please note that when you buy these separately they do come with a sharpener at the end, rather than just the lid like mine. I swatched these quickly for you all, I personally love each of them although the shade I wouldn't wear much of would be Aquabat as it is a little too bright for me. They apply amazingly well, they're really soft and creamy and as you can see extremely pigmented. They blend easily so I think they're great for incorporating into your smoky eye routine.

I'm very glad I picked the gift set up to be honest as if it hadn't been for my bargain hunter senses, I probably wouldn't have even have thought to try these eye liners.

Bit of catching up to do here, some of these date back from Christmas! Oh how I wish it was still Christmas...

My new necklace I got off eBay, I love it but after only having it for around four days it broke! I was not happy; I left it home so I can fix it once I'm home from university || My Cat Oliver, he is the best pussy cat in the whole wide world, even if he is rather evil at times...he can be quite cute though, look at him 'pretending' to be asleep in the image below || I had my fringe cut back in, I was so unsure as to whether to do it but I just thought 'what the heck' it'll grow back if I really hate it. However luckily I'm rather pleased with it, yay! || A cute little hamster I saw in Pets at Home. I'm not really a fan of pets in shops; something just feels wrong with it. I could have got this little chap though, he was beautiful || This was our Christmas tree that we actually changed the lights on after I took this picture, therefore it didn't end up looking like this in the end || New bath time treats!

My make-up that I'm using pretty much daily at the moment, I love the Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum! || I finally treated myself to 'Whipped Clean' by Soap and Glory; I quite like it although it isn't what I expected || I hit over 20,000 views on my blog over Christmas. This was huge for me, it may be a small figure to many people but for me it completely made my day. Thank you everybody! || My first craft project, read the post on it here || Lastly, I caved and picked up OPI Nail Envy from John Lewis with my money from Christmas, it also came with a Rapidry top coat.

Legions of Lip Balms!

Legions of Lip Balms!I have some sort of addiction, one I'm hoping to curb however I cannot see it going all too well.

I've being suffering with extremely dry lips for roughly around two years now, there is nothing that I have found that has really helped them over a long period of time, believe me I have tried a lot! My most recent purchased is the Nuxe Rêve de Miel which is the one I’m currently putting all my faith in after reading positive reviews from the majority of people.

I've recently began a mission to try and use some of these up and whilst using them I have discovered that when I use the Nivea lip balms they actually make my lips worse so, I think I may be putting these to one side until my lips are much better. I'm not particularly keen on the Milk and Honey one however, I have some sort of little love affair with the Soft Rose version as I've re-purchased it a few times. The Soft Rose version was my first ever lip balm that I purchased when I was younger and I simply adored it. These vary in price to be honest depending on what they claim to do; I think most are under £2.

The Lush Bubblegum Lip Scrub as seen above is helping me to get rid of any dead skin; however I do find that I have to watch how often I use this as it can be rather harsh if I use it too often. This costs £5.25 which is pricey for something you could essentially make at home, but hey, it’s rather unique isn’t in that cute little tub!

Once I have used the lip scrub I either use the Blistex Intensive Moisturiser (mainly because it is very nearly empty) or my new Nuxe Rêve de Mel which I got shortly after Christmas. So far I'm really liking it, I have to go as far to say that it is probably the best out of all of them that I have used in a long time so I'm hoping that over time it sorts out my problem. I ordered this from Feel Unique, paying £9.50 for it which for me I found to be rather pricey but if it works then fair game! Check your local M&S too as my local store is now stocking Nuxe in store rather than just online.

Worthy mentions go out to Burt's Bee's Lip Balms as I think they're rather nice and I do find that they keep my lips far more hydrated than the Nivea ones I have tried. These can be picked up in Boots and Holland and Barrett for £3.69, or of course from the Burt’s Bees website.

Another worthy mention would be that of the Korres Lip Butter which for me is my next favourite after the Nuxe lip balm as it gives a lovely tint to the lips however this one isn't as moisturising as I had expected, so in fact it is probably in joint second place with Burt's Bees. I picked up my Korres Lip Butter from Cute Cosmetics in the sale however they can be purchased from other sites such as Feel Unique; they cost £6 at full price.
Out of all of the lip balms above I have to say the one I really do not get on with is the Carmex Cherry Lip Balm. I'm sure it is a nice product but I cannot leave it on long enough to let it work, the taste for me is not very nice at all...I probably should have picked up the mint version. At £2.70 I know I will not be buying the cherry version again, it just isn’t my cup of tea.

Are there any new recommendations for something new for me to try?

Jewellery #1: Accessorize Love Bracelet

Whilst in the January Sales in Edinburgh I was always going to end up in Accessorize! It has to be one of my favourite shops on the high street, they have such beautiful things in there, so much so that I'm always finding new things I want to get my hands on; plus there are three Accessorize shops in Edinburgh, what more can I say.

I picked up three items of jewellery whilst I was in there, with the first item being featured today on my blog; the first of which I hope of many jewellery posts to come. Please do let me know what you think of this one, I wanted to try something a little new this year, as besides make-up and skincare I'm rather obsessed with jewellery.

I picked up these bracelets in the sale; they came as one thing all together so I got three bracelets for just the one price. I thought I still had the receipt so I could say how much it was and how much I paid but after having a quick search I cannot find it anywhere. If I stumble upon it I will add in the price, I think I paid roughly less than £4 for this though, with the original price being around £10.

There are three individual bracelets here but I must say I like wearing all three together. All three are inscribed with the word 'LOVE' which I have to say I'm not normally a fan of inscriptions on jewellery but on these I really like it as it isn't too in your face, I think it is rather cute in fact. I also like how there is a rose gold finish, a silver and a gold therefore you could easily match them up individually with other items of jewellery if you so wished.

They are loose bracelets so they will move up and down your arm quite freely, I don't mind this though, I like jingling around.

'Give and Make-Up'

A few weeks before Christmas during a twitter conversation I was informed by Danielle at 'Beauty in Japan' about the charity Give and Make-Up, thanks Danielle! I had never heard of this charity before then and after doing a quick spot of research there and then I decided that I would do my bit and donate. Give and Make-Up is a charity which helps to provide beauty and hygiene products to women and children who have had to leave their homes due to domestic abuse. Give and Make-Up donates all items that are donated by the public to either Women’s Aid or Refuge. Caroline Hirons, the founder of the charity was inspired as to the idea by two articles that had been brought to her attention; the first was from a cosmetic trade report which stated that 'the average woman in the US uses twelve products before she leaves the house'.

The second article was from Women's Aid and Refuge, whereby after reading the article which recommended women take toiletries with them when they leave home, she alluded to the fact that she had plenty of toiletries and cosmetics that she didn't need or use, who could she give them to? - So Give and Make-Up was born.

Each week two women in the United Kingdom are murdered by a partner or ex-partner.
One woman in four experiences domestic violence in their lives.

Click 'here' to read about what they need in terms of donations.
Seeing as I have no children’s clothes or anything child related I can't send anything useful to really benefit any children, I'm sure others could though. However, what I can send is make-up as I have so much of it that I find it all rather unnecessary. Therefore, the other night I sat and went through all my make-up and nail polishes and pulled out things that I did not want or that I did not use. I have to say the majority of the things I've decided to send have never been used!

Give and Make-Up
Give and Make-Up
Along with all this I will write down a list of everything included with a little note next to it about how much stuff has been used, I'll pop this in the package so that those who sort it out will be able to decide if they want to keep it. All the lipsticks included I'm ashamed to say I purchased on such a whim; they have only ever been swatched on the back of my hand. At least this way they will be going to a good cause and not being left sitting in a make-up bag never seeing the light of day. Information as to where to send donations and how to get in touch with the charity can be found on the website. I'm adding this image to my blog, let’s spread the word.

My Favourite Products of 2012!

My Favourite Products of 2012!
I have being looking forward to posting this ever since Christmas. I just love these types of posts as I tend to find out some great products from other people.

First up we have Soap and Glory, The Righteous Butter. This is my second tub of this as I simply love it; the smell is divine as are all the Soap and Glory products. This is really nice to apply, I like thicker body butters as opposed to body moisturisers so this ticks all the boxes for me. A simply wonderful product that I fully recommend to everyone and their dog...ok maybe not the dog but you get my point, it is fabulous! At £10.50 it isn't especially cheap, however it does last me a while and like I said because I love it so much I can always justify the price, plus knowing it is a cruelty free product is always nice.

This year was the year in which I discovered Topshop make-up, in particular their nail polishes. This is all down to you bloggers, so thank you. There is such a huge range of colours to choose from, with the majority of the polishes costing £5 with a slight price increase for metallic polishes as well as the glitter ones. I think they're great value for money as the formula in my opinion is pretty darn great, they last incredibly well on my nails which is saying something; plus the packaging is rather cute....they're also cruelty free.

Another item I have found myself loving this year is The Body Shop Black Liquid Eyeliner which costs £9. I never originally planned to buy this however I forgot my eyeliner when I went to Edinburgh in July and well, eyeliner is a product I cannot live without so this is what I purchased to rectify the situation. I have to say it is pretty great, it lasts all day for me and does not smudge one little bit. The nib is rather sturdy which allows you to create the look you want if you're a bit shaky in the hand like I can be! I definitely would buy this again, however I do want to try something else soon out of curiosity more than anything.

Again, another product by The Body Shop is their Camomile Gentle Eye Make-Up Remover. Readers of my blog will know I'm a huge fan of this; it is incredibly gentle on the eye area and works pretty well. I think this is around my seventh bottle of this so I'm quite the addict. I fully recommend this to anybody, however after having used it for such a long time I'm now on the hunt for something new to try. This is a great product though so it is worth trying if you have not already, plus all products by The Body Shop are cruelty free.

The Maybelline 24Hr Colour Tattoos have made it into my favourites this year. I purchased these as soon as they came out in all five colours...shame on me. Two of these I'm actually giving away to charity as I do not use them, the other three I plan on keeping. My favourite has to have been ‘On and On Bronze’ which is simply incredible. These eye shadows apply so beautifully and easily, they look great and do not crease one bit for me. I tend to wear just this alone to be honest but it can be used as a base for smoky eye looks, I fully recommend these to everyone! At just £4.99 these products are a bargain, with this product probably being the best eye shadow I have purchased all year. Maybelline however are not cruelty free unfortunately which is the only downside to this amazing product.

Lastly are the much raved about Revlon Lip Butters. Revlon is probably my favourite drugstore brand as their products generally tend to be rather good. I have three of the lip butters, Sugar Frosting, Strawberry Shortcake and Peach Parfait all three which I really love. These were a nice introduction for me into being more brave with lipsticks as I'm rather shy of them sometimes. These cost £7.99 which for me is an ok price as the product itself is really nice. Revlon are sadly not cruelty free anymore which again is the only downside to these lip butters.

New Year's Resolutions

New Year's Resolutions

Happy New Year everybody! I'm rather late in getting around to wishing that upon everyone but better late than never I always say. Every year I begin with several resolutions that I would like to try and achieve throughout the year, to be honest I rarely achieve any of them. This year however is a big year for me for a number of reasons; therefore I really do want to make the best of it. If I can achieve these five resolutions I've made for 2013 I will be rather pleased with myself.

Every year I try to look after my nails, so this year is no exception. I feel though that this year I will be able to achieve this much better as towards the end of last year I really found myself enjoying nail art so I want nice nails to practice on, preferably my own.

I'm a huge tea addict...huge! I want to try and limit myself to just two cups a day as I really dread to think how many I normally have. Last year for around two months I did this, replacing my usual tea with Green Tea and I have to say my skin never looked so great. I've already started this, in fact I have a cup of Peach and Cherry blossom Green Tea with me right now, cheers!

I plan to pass my driving test this year come what may!

I want to me more positive and happy in general.
