Clarins Instant Eye Make-Up Remover

After being pretty committed to using eye make-up remover from The Body Shop over the last three or four years I fancied trying something different. At the time of looking for something new to try the Clarins Instant Eye Make-Up Remover was floating around with it receiving pretty darn good reviews at that.

I decided to treat myself to something a bit more luxurious, with this of course meaning it was more expensive to boot. At £17 this is not by any means a budget eye make up remover therefore I was expecting to be blown away once it came to using this...I wasn't. Now don't get me wrong it is a nice make up remover and does work for me relatively well, however I found that it worked no better than previous products I have used which I must note have been less than half the price of this.

This is a bi-phase product which in order to activate needs to be shaken whereby the combination of a water phase and oil phase helps to remove waterproof make-up. I found that even though this was oil based it wasn't overly oily therefore it was a much better experience than when I had used the No7 Eye Make-Up Remover last year which left my eye area feeling really greasy. The Clarins Instant Eye Make-Up Remover claims to be hydrating, soothing and suitable for those with sensitive eyes which I do agree with to some extent as I can definitely say my eyes have never felt sore after using this which is a big plus and something which I look for in eye make up removers. I guess I could say my eye area is left relatively hydrated however; I end up washing it off afterwards anyway once I start to cleanse my face.

Overall I have to say I wouldn't repurchase this as I personally think it is rather expensive for something which I haven't found to be any better than previous products I've used.  I feel like I've been a tad negative towards this which makes me feel a bit bad however I was left rather disappointed with it. I honestly don't think it is a bad product at all, in fact it is really quite nice however why spend more for something if you don't need to.

If however you're still interested in trying this then perhaps get a sample from your local Clarins counter so that you can try it before buying the full size.

Have you tried the Clarins Instant Eye Make-Up Remover?

*Clarins is not a cruelty free brand.

  2. It's not a negative review it's just your honest opinion and that's what we want to read so please don't feel bad :) It definitely sounds quite expensive for a product that doesn't blow you away xx

  3. I had been considering buying this after seeing a few people review it and like it but I must admit the price put me off a bit. Thanks for your honest reviewing saying it may not be worth the money. What eye makeup removers would you recommend that are just as good but cheaper?

    1. It put me off for a while too! You should definitely try Bioderma, I don't own it but I've tried some of my sisters and it worked pretty well. I also like The Body Shop Gentle Camomile Eye Makeup Remover :) xx

  4. I have never tried any expensive make-up removers myself; I tend to stick to good old Boots own or the Body Shop! Thanks for doing this review - don't feel bad about it being negative, it helps us to make better decisions about which products to buy! :)

  5. I'm so happy to hear an honest review. I've been considering getting this eye makeup remover for a while now but at the same time, Bioderma has been serving me well since I wear very minimal makeup.

  6. It's good to hear the 'bads' about the product instead of all the 'goods'.

  7. I find there is a lot of good makeup removers like this for a fraction of the price. It looks like a fantastic remover though, hehe :)

  8. I use this as it is literally the only makeup remover which gets off my waterproof mascara, which is a complete bitch to get off! I think on normal mascara my bioderma does the job!

  9. What a shame this didn't live up to your expectations! Don't feel bad about saying it, there's no point reviewing a product if you're not going to say if it disappointed you :)

  10. I haven't tried this before, but seeing as I'm so smitten by my Bioderma and have been for about 2 years now I've not felt the need to buy any other makeup remover. I would have expected a lot more from this though considering the price and the brand! xx

    1. I think that is probably one of the best things about blogging :) you can get a whole variety of opinions on products which leaves it up to you to decide on what to buy with perhaps much better formed advice xx

  12. I know what you mean - sometimes you're paying more for the name or the packaging rather than the actual product inside. If you can find something that works just as well for you but costs less, then why not stick with the less expensive option? I really dislike makeup removers that leave an oily residue though, so this Clarins one might be one to check out for me if it performs well in that respect.

    1. I must admit I've tried an oily one in the past which I didn't get along with, this however was very different so in that respect I did like it :) xx

  13. Thanks for an honest review! I don't go for high end eye make up removers anymore because I think Bourjois and Garnier do ones that are just as good for over half the price xx

  14. I agree - my Mum uses this and, although I always steal it when I'm over at the house (sorry mum!), I wouldn't pay that much myself for an eye make up remover. I actually find the Simple one really good and it's pretty cheap too! x

  16. I was thinking of picking a few new Clarins bits up on my way through duty free, but I'm glad you say this one isn't worth the money as £17 is a price I wouldn't like to pay for an eye makeup remover. I definitely want to try the Instant Smooth Primer and the tanning one too though. xx
