To say that the new holiday release from MAC has had me intrigued would be something of an understatement. Released just this week (as far as I'm aware) I nipped on down to see if my local MAC counter had the new launch however it was sadly not to be. Taking a risk I ordered the lipstick that I wanted offline, it was a gamble for sure having not seen the real thing for myself however I'm happy to report that it was a gamble that paid off.
Now this only arrived yesterday after a superb delivery speed from MAC I must say however I wanted to get this review up as soon as possible. The reason for this was so that if anybody was thinking about looking into the collection they would have more of an idea about this particular shade as after it it is a limited edition release and we all know how fast they seem to sell out.
Salon Rouge is a limited edition matte finish lipstick encased within limited edition black casing with flecks of silver sparkles running through it. There are currently five lipsticks within the Heirloom Mix collection of which there is just one other shade which appeals to me, that being rebel. MAC enthusiasts out there will note that rebel is not a limited edition shade so of course you're paying extra for the packaging alone there.
My MAC lipstick collection is quite small with this now being my sixth lipstick. I like the fact that this is the first one that I will be able to tell immediately apart from the others due to the packaging being slightly different. I'm that person that picks up two or three before I find the one I'm looking for in the morning. Described as a berry red I would say that this fits the description perfectly and whilst we're on the topic of shade I would say that this is extremely close to the infamous Rimmel 107. Salon Rouge if I had to be picky is slightly deeper in tone and is in my opinion more pigmented over two swipes yet in the bullet before being applied they do look quite different.
In regards to lasting power I'm very impressed by this formula as once again the matte finishes from MAC are in my experience superb. Lasting for a good six hours or so (I've had this on all morning) I've been really impressed as the finish has worn well and faded pretty evenly. Do note however that it is worth keeping it to hand in order to top up once you have eaten as it does wear off slightly. I've also noted that it left a slight stain behind once I had removed my make up of last night however this doesn't tend to bother me too much. When it comes do matte lipsticks I can find them drying however this hasn't been too bad for me at all. Of course I always prep with a lip balm beforehand so that will help to prevent that dry tight feeling.
I only received this last night after finishing work however how could not resist not trying it until this morning? The temptation was just too much hence the slightly soft finish off the lipstick in the picture. Overall I'm so incredibly happy with this lipstick and would highly recommend checking out this and the other items in the range too.
