At the beginning of the year I made the conscious decision to cut back when it came down to buying beauty products. In the roll up to my fourth year of blogging I had found myself with somewhat of an abundance of makeup and skincare products, which have taken me quite a while to work through. Of course the beauty addict in me cannot hold off forever, which is why in recent weeks I have picked up a few new things to try.
Most recently you may remember that I decided to treat myself to the Cult Beauty Box. There are a number of products within that which I really looking forward to trying. It is taking all of my restraint to not open the Sunday Riley Luna Oil until I have finished off my current option let me tell you.
Aside from that I also picked up over the weekend several products from the high street. Generally speaking, I do prefer my higher end beauty these days, however sometimes you just cannot beat a good old fashioned browse through the aisles of Boots and Superdrug in order to see what catches your eye.
Bourjois Radiance Reveal ConcealerHaving been such a huge fan of Bourjois foundations in the past I decided to give their new concealer a try. The shade range is pretty small as we have generally come to realize from brands on the high street, however, luckily for me the lightest shade works well for my skin tone. From my experience so far I have found this to be a really nice concealer which sits nicely on top of my eye cream in the morning. It doesn't appear to crease and it has relatively good wear throughout the day. Like all Bourjois products in the past, I am pretty happy with my purchase.
Bourjois Air Mat FoundationThe Bourjois Air Mat Foundation was one which I wished to try after reading pretty good reviews about it. Bourjois foundations have always worked very well for me previously; to this day I am still such a huge fan of the Healthy Mix Serum. There are currently nine shades within this range which I think is quite good for the high street, although there is always room for improvement. Typically, as the name would suggest this is a matte foundation which will work much better for those with an oily skin type. I fear that for those who have dry skin that they may struggle with this due to it clinging on to dry areas. That being said, it is working well for my skin type currently as it looks really natural on and wears very well throughout my working day.
It is worth mentioning that this particular foundation is quite heavily scented which I do think is a bit unnecessary. That being said it does not bother me personally, although I appreciate that for some it could be a bit too much.
Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge
Makeup sponges in general have been on my list to try for such a long time now. Before opting to spend the money on the original Beauty Blender I decided to give the Real Techniques version a try. My first impressions are good, however after only one day use I feel as though this is a product which is going to get dirty very, very quickly as despite the tutorial saying you can use it for blush, foundation and concealer, one just doesn't have time to clean this every day for use the following morning; especially when it has taken over 24 hours to dry. Currently I am on the fence about this little product, I want to love it but maybe I am a bit too set in my ways.
NYX Butter GlossMuch to my amazement last Friday I happened to find myself at a NYX stand in my local Boots. In fact, a NYX stand would be somewhat of an understatement as there were about six of them in total. Upon reflection I was pretty reserved as I walked away with just the one purchase, that being one of their much hyped about Butter Glosses. Having now tried this I am itching to go back and pick up a couple more shades, the formula is beautiful and the pigmentation is fantastic. They are only slightly sticky which is a factor I can overlook as the pros certainly outweigh the cons. For just £5 I think these lip products are fantastic.
