Beauty Favourites 2016 Part 2: Skincare

Beauty Favourites 2016 Part 2: Skincare
The first installment of this series looked at my Beauty Favourites in 2016 which featured a heap of makeup products; this time around I am looking at skincare and beauty tools in general. Long time readers of my blog will instantly recognise a few favourites in the mix, as well as a couple of more recent products which have been instant hits with me and so many of you too.

The Wet Brush*

When I first was sent this to review I was apprehensive, I mean it is just a hair brush and how good can a hair brush really be? Needless to say that having since used this I have already made a back up purchase of my own; yes it is that good. This brush is like no other in my opinion, it makes brushing your hair when it is wet a breeze, (yes I know it is not a good thing, but the alternative does not bear thinking about).

Garner Micellar Water

Throughout the year I must have repurchased this about five or six times. In my personal opinion it is the best micellar water that I have used to date; it beats so many more expensive options and it also comes in a deluxe size so I find it superb value for money. It is gentle on my eyes, packaged well and super affordable. Garnier really did pull it out the bag with this one.

Mitchum Ultimate Pure Fresh Deodorant

In all honesty this isn't the most glamorous  product to talk about, however it is a necessity and is part of my 'beauty' regime every single day. For a very long time I found it quite difficult to find a deodorant that worked all day long. It doesn't help that I am quite picky when it comes to deodorants either as I am not a fan of sprays and I cannot stand the little roller ball options that make your underarms feel all sticky; blegh! The Mitchum Ultimate Pure Fresh Deodorant comes in several types, I always opt for the cream version as this is simply what I prefer and do you know what? It works like an absolute dream. Yes it is pricey, but I don't think you can put a price on confidence when it comes to body odor....just saying.

Beauty Favourites 2016 Part 2: Skincare

Kiehl's Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado

These days I try not to talk about this product too much as it really has been at the forefront of my blog for a very long time now. In a nut shell I still adore it and continue to use it every single day. I have linked my review to this as it may be worth a read if you are thinking of trying this out this year.

Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Concentrate

Sticking with Kiehl's for one more moment, it goes without saying that again when it comes to skincare Kiehl's is heavily featured. The Midnight Recovery Concentrate is something which I reach for a couple of times a week when my skin is feeling particularly dehydrated or looking like it needs reviving. This is such an incredibly light weight oil which works beautifully on my skin leaving it feeling soft, hydrated and by morning really nice and bright.

L'Oreal Pure Clay Detox Mask

Without a shadow of a doubt this was probably the best new skincare purchase that I made last year. This mask in particular stood apart from the other two which were released alongside it. Having tried a fair few clay masks in my time I would most certainly say that this is within my top three, particularly when you take into account its affordability and indeed availability.

Jade Facial Roller

The Jade Facial Roller had always been a product which had intrigued me, yet it was one which I couldn't quite bring myself to purchasing. It is, after all quite expensive. That being said, when it came as part of the Cult Beauty Box last May I decided to finally treat myself and make the order. Essentially this is a massage tool for the contours of your face, it's said to make you look younger which I am pretty darn sceptical about, Having said that, it really helps to reduce congestion I think and also to help with lymph drainage and to get circulation flowing. Do you need it? Probably not but it's a nice little beauty treat that I like to indulge in every now and then.

Did you spot any of your beauty favourites here?

Beauty Favourites 2016 Part 1: Makeup

Beauty Favourites 2016
Last year I really cut back on beauty products. When I sit down and think about how many I purchased I could probably count them all on one hand; I really did want to cut back and cut back I did. This is why in 2017 I have a list as long as my arm of beauty products that I wish to try, although that is a new blog post in itself.

Naturally of course my beauty favourites of 2016 consists of long term favourites. I really didn't try many new things at all last year which I found to be quite nice if I am honest, I didn't feel the need to keep up with all of the latest beauty releases despite being a huge beauty lover.

So, it is time to sit back and share with you my beauty favourites from the last twelve months. Go and grab a cup of tea and some nibbles as this may be a long one.
 Beauty Favourites 2016

Seventeen Stay Time Concealer

This is probably one of my most purchased beauty products alongside the Kiehl's Avocado Creamy Eye Treatment. It is super affordable and does the job of masking my dark circles quite nicely. I always ensure that I use an eye cream underneath this, although on its own it is surprisingly hydrating in comparison to many of its competitors.

MAC Lipstick

Generally speaking, I am a huge advocate of a Mac Lipstick. There are so many shades available and a vast array of finishes and formulas. I personally don't have a favourite shade this year, although some of my favourites I have being sporting consist of Amorous and Syrup.

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush Palette

Unfortunately, I hate to say that this next product is a limited edition. I rarely feature limited edition products as its a bit of a pain if you can no longer purchase them, having said that this has been one of my most used products this year without a shadow of a doubt, therefore it would be unfair not to include it. The Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush Palette consists of three blush shades, those being Luminous Flush, Incandescent Electra and my personal favourite, Mood Exposure. These blushes are utterly beautiful to apply and wear, they look flawless and are incredibly pigmented. If you're partial to a blush and fancy treating yourself then I highly recommend checking these out.

Zoeva Cocoa Blend Eye Shadow Palette

Without a doubt one of my best beauty bargains last year was the Zoeva Cocoa Blend Eye Shadow Palette. If you're looking for great pigmentation, longevity and affordability then look no further. I really do think that Zoeva have you covered here, they also have an array of different palettes with beautiful shades on offer so there really is something for everyone.

Zoeva Rose Gold Luxury Brush Set

Like the product above, I have an entire post dedicated to this make up brush set as I think they are utterly fantastic. For a good few years I had stuck to using Real Techniques brushes, which, in their own right are very good. That being said I really did fancy a change this year so opted to go for the highly recommended Zoeva Rose Gold Brush Set. Please do head on over to my review where I have written about each brush individually.

Sally Hansen Maximum Nail Growth

Out of all the beauty products in the history of my life (no joke), this is without a doubt the most purchased. For those that have read my blog for a long time or for those that know me personally, you will know that I have trouble with growing my nails. For me this is the only product that helps to show results within a short space of time. It is cheap as chips and widely available in Boots and Superdrug, in fact I am pretty sure I have seen it in Asda too!

Illamasqua Eyebrow Cake

It took a couple of years for me to really get into the whole 'brow' thing. In that time, I have tried a variety of different products by numerous different brands and I always, always find myself coming back to Illamasqua. Their brow gel and eye brow cake are both fantastic products which will literally last you a life time. I truly would not hesitate to recommend these to anybody.

Upon sitting down to write this post I had intended to include skincare too, however it has got to half past nine on a Sunday night and I have so much to do before work tomorrow. Therefore I have made the executive decision to split this post into two. Stay tuned for my skincare favourites which will be coming up later this week.

Have you tried any of the products above? Please do let me know your beauty favourites too.

Life Lately #6

Life Lately #6

Despite my last post like this having being all the way back in July last year, there have been quite a lot of things happening in the world of Amy in recent months. Last summer was a pretty good one for me by all accounts, I was really happy with both my personal life and indeed my work life; I also found myself getting back into fitness after a ridiculously long break of which I will admit I had no excuse for.

Unfortunately, as we hit mid August things turned a bit sour and I was sadly pretty darn low, in fact I was extremely miserable and once again blamed myself for everything that was going wrong. Of course a bit of perspective and a good talking to one's self sure helped me to get back on track, although if I am honest it was all the incredibly kind things that so many of you were messaging me during this time which really helped me through. Instagram suddenly became somewhat of a lifeline in terms of people reaching out and getting in touch; thank you so much.

Things really picked up for me after that brief cold spell luckily. Work was going pretty well, although I have found it to become increasingly more challenging now that I have started my Legal Practice Course. Working full time and studying is incredibly difficult, especially when balancing all the normal things that go alongside that....oh, and that's not forgetting my little blog too.

As we headed throughout Autumn I found myself getting to know somebody who is making me extremely happy, we also took a little mini break away just after Christmas which was just what we both needed after the mad build up to the festive holidays. I won't speak about this kind of thing much on here as I value that type of privacy far too much, however what I will say is that it is nice to feel this kind of happiness once again.

Sometimes I feel like a bit of a broken record of late when it comes to my blog. There is so much I want to do on here, yet I find my time is eaten up before I even realise it. That being said, it hasn't helped with the winter because I have found it so difficult to take photographs; roll on lighter evenings that's what I say! If there is anything you would like to see on here, then please do let me know in the comments below. It's always nice to hear what readers would like to see, or indeed what readers would not like to see; I find it all really useful and it will help me to create better content in the long run too.

Once again I have been toying with the idea of a re-brand for A Little Boat Sailing. I really feel as though I have out grown this place on here, I want this blog to reflect the 27 year old me as it will be five years ago this March since I first sat down and wrote my first post. A lot has changed in that time, I have changed. I have a couple of ideas in my head in terms of a new name for my site which is a starting point I guess; I always find that to be the hardest place to start with anything like this.

If you have ever had a blog re-brand, then let me know how you found it. Was it worth it? Did you feel more content with it once everything had been done?

For now I have to once again revise for a couple of exams, therefore I am not too sure when I will get another post up, however I would like to get in my Beauty Favourites of 2016 before we hit February that's for sure....fifteen days and counting; this year sure is flying by already folks. Let's make it a good one.

Feel Good Formulas by Arran Aromatics

Feel Good Formulas by Arran Aromatics

Over the Christmas break I finally got around to editing a few photographs that I took way back in September. Better late than never right? One such example of said photographs were for an upcoming post on products from the Feel Good Formulas range by Arran Aromatics. At the time of receiving some of the products to test out for myself I had only ever read a few reviews about the range, all of which had been pretty positive, therefore I was really intrigued to see what they would be like for myself.

Feel Good Formulas by Arran Aromatics

Bergamot and Mint Sea Mud Mask*

The Bergamot and Mint Sea Mud Mask like most clay based masks aims to help unblock clogged pores leaving a brighter and visibly clearer complexion. In a nut shell this mask achieves what it sets out to do for a relatively affordable price tag of £10.00. It is quite thick to apply yet is easily spread around those target areas, namely the t-zone which consists of the forehead, nose and chin. I find that it dries quite quickly and has a slightly tight feeling once completely set after around ten minutes, however I don't know about you but I do find that oddly satisfying. Once rinsed away I find that my skin is instantly brighter, soothed and clearer which ultimately is the name of the game when it comes to a product such as this.

Mint and Corriander Soap*

Generally speaking, I rarely use soaps, in fact I can probably count on one hand the number of times in which I have purchased soap; they have all been from a certain bath bomb store on the high street. When I first used this I did note that it felt quite rough on my skin, this is easily explained by the apricot seeds which are found throughout the soap, however for on my body as a whole I did find it to be too sharp on my skin. However, upon further investigation, namely a visit to the website I did note that it was in fact a foot exfoliator which naturally explains as to why the soap is the way it is. To be honest whilst I found this to be in general an OK product, it wasn't something that particularly wowed me, that being said I am not a great advocate of soap in general.

Seaweed and Mineral Salt Scrub*

Without a doubt my favourite product which I have experienced from Arran Aromatics thus far is the Seaweed and Mineral Salt Scrub. Now, despite having said the last product was too rough on my skin I did find that this was perfect in terms of how rough it felt. It is a hard thing to explain, however I have tried a variety of body scrubs in the past which have been rather under whelming as they haven't really achieved much in terms of exfoliating my skin. I like a body scrub to have a bit of oomph about it, without of course leaving my skin sore. This scrub for me has it all and I would happily make a purchase of this of my own in the future, it is for me perfect and it left my skin feeling super soft, stimulated and moisturised due to the oils contained within. It also has an incredibly refreshing sea scent too which only added to a refreshing experience.

I have noticed that since I was sent these products to review that they have been redesigned and re-packaged in some cases, this may explain as to why they may look slightly different on the website in comparison to the pictures above.

Overall my experience with this range from Arran Aromatics has been extremely positive, I really do miss that sea salt scrub in my life so I may have to make a New Year's purchase rather soon.

Have you tried Arran Aromatics?

Happy New Year

Happy New Year

Sitting here on a Monday afternoon drinking a cup of tea and eyeing up yet another Terry's Chocolate Orange seems somewhat alien to me. I would normally be at work right now, rushing around and counting down the minutes until 5pm, yet alas it is bank holiday and we are welcoming in the New Year.

My blog over the last month has been pretty quiet to say the least, in fact I think in almost the five years since I have been running this little place on the internet it has been the longest I have gone without publishing a single post. This does make me a little sad in all honestly as I still love to sit down and write and talk about my favourite beauty products, however it really has been quite nice to switch off and to simply take a little break.

Whilst I would love nothing more than to say I am back with heaps of brand new content I must admit that I am rather unprepared for 2017 when it comes to my blog. The next couple of months for me are going to be busy as I am due to start hitting exam territory for my Master's degree within the next two weeks, however I will still be uploading throughout this period, just not as frequently as I would like.

It struck me on Saturday evening that when I asked somebody about their New Year's Resolutions that I had in fact none of my own. Let's face it, most of us opt for the old cliché of losing a few pounds, getting fitter and perhaps taking up a new hobby (all of which I plan to do this year). However, nine times out of ten most of these resolutions fade away, we get back stuck into work and our day to day routines and those resolutions simply just become great ideas we had on the 31st December. Therefore whilst I haven't really made any new year's resolutions as such, I have decided to choose just two aims for 2017 which I wish to incorporate into my life for ever more, not just as a goal for the new year.

Generally speaking, I am one of those people who seek to make others happy, to please others when perhaps sacrificing my own happiness in the process. Whilst I will always have that in me, I do want to start doing things more for myself and making sure that I am happy too. Self-care was a phrase that was thrown around a lot last year, yet it wasn't something which I really thought about until the last couple of months. This year I have made a promise to myself that I will start looking after myself better.

Throughout the year we do so many things in our lives which may seem trivial, yet in years to come we may look back on those with fond memories and laughter. My second goal for this year and as I say forever more is to start documenting memories, to take more photographs and to actually print them off. In an ever evolving digital world I rarely see photo albums or scrap books these days, therefore I am going back to basics and will be aiming to create my own Project Life album in the coming few weeks....(once my order arrives).

Whatever your resolutions are this year, whether you have decided to make any or to simply take each day as it comes, I truly wish you a Happy New Year with love, peace and happiness.
